What really pisses me off is granola.. I mean, when you go to buy it in the store it is either moderately priced and full of CRAP, OIL, SUGAR, ARTIFICIAL FLAVORS, SALT, and all sorts of other crap you don't even know about.. or it is EXPENSIVE and really healthy.. One time we found this granola in oregon that was actually oil & sugar free, but it was $9/lb!!!!



Especially now that Gwen and I are eating on the cheap, we buy in BULK, we don't buy puffed cereal anymore (not right now at least) and we are just buying 25lb lags of Rolled Oats for about 90. cents per lb, bulk bananas by the case at about 50. cents per lb, and then making our own damn granola and cereal from that!

Once you get used to making  your own granola you will not want to go back to the store bought stuff! You will be hooked like us!!

If you don't like one of the ingredients just leave it out, all you need is the oats and the bananas, everything else is optional!

So here we go, this is the yummy granola recipe that we are eating right now! It combines all the things we love and all the special ingredients for peak performance as a runner.


Makes 9 cups granola , Prep Time: 15 mins,   Dehydrate time: 6 -12 hrs,  Bake time if not using dehydrator: 45 mins



  • 4 ripe Bananas
  • 2 tablespoons blackstrap molasses 
  • 8 cups regular rolled Oats (old fashion oats)
  • 1/2 - 1 cup crushed raw walnuts
  • 1/4 cup raw Pumpkin seeds
  • 1/4 cup raw Sunflower seeds
  • 1/4 cup Chia seeds
  • 1/4 cup ground Flaxseeds
  • 4 tablespoons Cocoa powder or raw cacao powder
    • (we use raw always whenever we are not baking or cooking)
  • 2 teaspoons Turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon Ginger powder
  • 1 teaspoon Cinnamon powder
  • Dehydrator and silicon sheets or an oven and parchment paper


  1. In a blender, blend bananas and molasses together until creamy, you may have to use the tamper to push the bananas to the bottom and allow them to blend well.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, mix all of the remaining ingredients together until well combined
  3. Pour the banana smoothie into the big bowl of oats and mix until it is all coated.
  4. We used a 5 tray dehydrator with silicon sheets to make the granola, because we LOVE the way granola tastes when it is dehydrated…And it keeps it RAW and preserves the nutritional integrity of the nuts and seeds! but you can use the oven and parchment paper if you do not have a dehydrator.  If you do use the oven, I would leave out the walnuts and add them after it has baked to keep them raw. Still good.
  5. Spread evenly on your silicon dehydrator sheets and dehydrate at anywhere from 100F-200F for 6-12 hours, until it is crunchy and perfect. Dehydrating times vary so Im not going to tell you an exact time. Just do it overnight and you will be fine! If using the oven, you will probably need 4 baking sheets, so probably best to bake in 2 batches. Spread the granola evenly out on your 4-5 sheets lined with parchment paper.
  6. Bake at 200-300 for 30-50 minutes until crunchy but not burnt. It is best to take it out and toss it after about 20 minutes.

That is it, ENJOY over a smoothie bowl, with plant-milk or alone as a snack on the trail!!!!

This is an insane deal, we use exactly this product. 2 lbs for this price of organic turmeric is a steal!

Bulk Ginger root is a great option to save money (1 lbb for this price is great) and the powder makes life easy. We add about 1/4 tsp to every smoothie!

Raw Pumpkin seeds are the bomb! We get them at our local natural food store, but if you cannot find them locally, this is a good deal, 5 lbs for this price!
